As part of the capacity building for EMB Regional Offices (EMB RO), DENR Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) has successfully held the Training Workshop for Airshed Designation and Dispersion Modelling using Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) data or other relevant data (Luzon Cluster) at Mango Suites in Santiago City, Isabela last November 04 – 08, 2019. The workshop was hosted by EMB Region II in collaboration with EMB Central Office-Air Quality Management Section and attended by EMB RO representatives from Luzon such as Regions I, II, III, IV-A, CAR and NCR.

The Workshop was conducted to equip EMB technical personnel with the fundamental knowledge on the basic principles behind modern Dispersion Modelling soft wares, familiarize with the provisions of the Clean Air Act regarding Dispersion Modelling and how to integrate these data in creating Airshed Designations and other predictive forecast when it comes to the effects of identified air pollution sources with readily available data to the overall status of the ambient air.

Engr. Diosdado Doctor, OIC-Regional Director of EMB Region II welcomed the participants from all participating EMB RO’s in the Luzon Cluster with high hopes for everyone to gain strong foundations when it comes to Dispersion Modelling and it’s applicability to improve overall performance for each of their respective Offices.

The event included a focused discussion with Engr. Jundy Del Socorro on the provisions of “Memorandum Circular 2008-003 (Guidelines for Dispersion Modelling)” and its Clean Air Act Policy together with several “Applications of Dispersion Modelling” and “The Overview of the Lapse Rates and other meteorological factors”. The event was then followed by the lecture series with hands-on activities using Excel Worksheets for “Emission Calculation, Fuel Analysis for Combustion point sources” by Engr. Jackielyn Barona and “Calculations using Gaussian Plume Equation and Plume Rise Equations” by Engr. Danilo Yap, Jr.
