The capacity building on improvement of air quality monitoring and establishment of a data management system was organized by Air Quality Program in ASEAN (AQIP) and Expertise France Groupe. The capacity building aims to provide air quality practitioners from ASEAN Member States (AMS) with a common foundation of knowledge and supporting guidance that will enable them to better understand the air quality context and challenges in the region, and to implement robust approaches to gather air quality data and use it to effectively engage policymakers, industries and relevant authorities.
The event was held last January 21-23, 2025, at Seda Vertis North, Quezon City and participated in by seven (7) ASEAN member-states namely Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Part of the capacity building was an educational visit at the data center of the DENR Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB). The data center monitors air and water quality in real time and contains information and data on various environmental initiatives of the Bureau.
In her welcome message OIC-Assistant Director Esperanza A. Sajul emphasized the importance of the collaboration and capacity in strengthening regional cooperation and in opening opportunities for future partnership and knowledge sharing between and among ASEAN countries.
