As part of strengthening the campaign against smoke belching vehicles, the Anti- Smoke Belching Units of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are now conducting night operations to apprehend smoke belchers along major thoroughfares in Metro Manila. The operations are being spearheaded by DENR-EMB with the assistance from the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group, Coalition for Clean Air Advocates, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and the media. The operation will last for one month.
The said Anti-Smoke Belching Night Operations was launched last November 19, 2014, in front of PLDT Commonwealth Ave., in Quezon City.
The operation started at 5:30 PM and ended at 10:00P M. The first day of night operation resulted in the apprehension of 37 smoke belching vehicles consisiting of buses, jeepneys and utility vehicles (UV-Express). The night operation will continue for as long it is needed.
